HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL PLACES

Bodrum, or Halicarnassus as it was known in ancient times, is known as a significant holiday destination both in Turkey and internationally, and its historical and cultural riches are also worth seeing. If you want to enrich your holiday with historical treasures, including the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus, one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, you should definitely head to Bodrum.

Now, let's take a look at the must-see historical sites in Bodrum.

Mausoleum at Halicarnassus

The word "mausoleum" derives from the name of Mausolos, the satrap of the Caria region of the Achaemenid Empire, and this ancient tomb is one of Bodrum's most important historical treasures. Standing 45 meters tall and striking with its massive columns, this structure dates back to the late 4th century BC. Built in memory of the king who chose Halicarnassus as his home, the mausoleum, considered one of the Seven Wonders of the World, is still a striking example of the columns and stones that remain today, captivating visitors and providing a sense of the structure's former grandeur.

Bodrum Castle
Also known as St. Peter's Castle, this famous structure was built by the Knights of St. John in the early 15th century. (Some of the stones used in its construction and in the reconstruction efforts following the sieges were taken from the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus.) To reach this impressive castle, situated on a high promontory overlooking the harbor, a short walk along Bodrum Marina is sufficient. While you're likely to be captivated by the beautiful view during this walk, it's impossible to miss the magnificent Bodrum Castle.

Bodrum Underwater Archaeology Museum
The Bodrum Archaeology Museum, located within Bodrum Castle, opened in the early 1960s. Considered the world's largest museum when it comes to significant shipwrecks, some of the shipwrecks at the Bodrum Underwater Archaeology Museum date back hundreds of years. While exploring, we highly recommend visiting the 14th-century Uluburun shipwreck, one of the many treasures from trade routes that we're sure will pique your curiosity. This shipwreck, famous for its treasure trove, including a golden beetle figurine from the Egyptians engraved with the name of Queen Nefertiti, is one of the museum's rarest pieces. Located in an area once a major commercial port, the Bodrum Underwater Archaeology Museum offers an up-close view of unique and unusual artifacts.

Ottoman Shipyard Art Gallery
The ship and boatbuilding industry holds a special place in Bodrum's history, as it does in any major port. The Ottoman Empire's naval forces owed a significant portion of its galleon fleet to this industry in the 18th and 19th centuries. The Ottoman Shipyard Art Gallery welcomes visitors to a watchtower built to warn the public of approaching pirate ships. Behind the gallery, which primarily displays the works of fine artists and hosts various exhibitions throughout the year, is the Ottoman Cemetery, home to the tombs of the Unnamed Horseman and Ottoman sailor Cafer Pasha.

Bodrum Antique Theatre
Built in the Greco-Roman style, the Bodrum Antique Theatre, with its mesmerizing detail, was commissioned by King Mausolus in the 4th century BC. With a capacity of 10,000, the well-preserved theatre hosts many prominent artists, both local and foreign.

Stratonikeia
The ruins of this ancient city, dating back to the 3rd century BC, can be found near Yatağan, about 1 kilometer from the road from Bodrum to Yatağan. The current ruins are thought to date from the Hellenistic-Roman period. Prominent ruins include an ancient theater, the city's north gate, the north street with columns, a peripteral temple, a gymnasium (a place where young people in ancient Greece and Rome could receive both physical and intellectual education), a Roman bathhouse, and a council building.

Beçin, Milas

This area, which includes a castle and is accessible from Bodrum in an hour by car, dates back to the Hellenistic period, although many of the structures seen today date from the 14th century. Visited by Ibn Battuta in 1333, Beçin is a fine example of an early Muslim settlement with its commercial buildings, fountains, baths, and mosques. Beçin is on the UNESCO World Heritage Tentative List.

Euromos Archaeological Site
Located on the road to Lake Bafa, the Euromos Archaeological Site dates back to the 6th century BC. (Archaeologists have calculated the temple's age using fragments found in the area.) During the reign of Emperor Hadrian (100 AD), a temple dedicated to Zeus was built here. This structure, with 16 columns still standing today, is one of the best-preserved classical temples in our country.

The Ancient City of Iasos
Located just an hour's drive from Bodrum, the ruins of Iasos once stood on an island, which in modern times was joined to the mainland. Dating back to the 5th century BC, Iasos was founded, according to legend, by the Arnogoths. However, the city also traces its roots to the Minoan and Mycenaean civilizations. During your visit, we recommend carefully examining the statues, ancient theater, parliament, Roman villas, and Artemis Stoa.

Lake Bafa
Lake Bafa is a protected natural park and bird sanctuary. Spread over an area of 60 square kilometers and boasting a peaceful atmosphere, the lake also boasts the ruins of an ancient church, where you can see Byzantine wall and ceiling paintings. To enjoy a pleasant day surrounded by nature and to visit the ancient city of Herakleia, which commands a commanding position over the lake, we recommend dedicating a day to this area.

The Ancient City of Herakleia
The ancient city of Herakleia is located between Bodrum and Didim, slightly off the beaten path of tourists. Although geographically located on the border between Ionia and Caria, and even within the Ionia region, the city is considered a typical Carian city with its character and historical past. Located within the borders of Kapıkırı Village, on a rocky site overlooking Lake Bafa, Latmos is also known as Herakleia. Be sure to visit to discover its extraordinary landscapes and mysterious history!

Ephesus Ancient City and the House of the Virgin Mary
After the Mausoleum at Halicarnassus, if you'd like to add another of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World to your must-see list, you should definitely visit this fascinating ancient city, just a two-hour drive from Bodrum. Included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the ancient city of Ephesus boasts the Temple of Artemis, the famous Library of Celsus, well-preserved terraced Roman-era houses, a large amphitheater, and much more historical treasures. After leaving the ancient city of Ephesus, you can take a short drive to the historic site where the Virgin Mary is believed to have resided.

• Reviewing the current situation in biodiversity conservation efforts, collaborating closely with relevant legal authorities, scientists, and local governments, and collaborating with stakeholders on local solutions and global impacts,

• Considering the Equator Principles, IFC (International Finance Corporation) Performance Criteria, and/or EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development) Performance Requirements when assessing biodiversity risks for large-scale investments that may pose environmental and social risks.
• Allocating a significant importance to biodiversity within sustainability goals and integrating it into decision-making processes.
• Encouraging all employees and stakeholders to participate in efforts to protect biodiversity.

Sustainable Water Management Policy

Tesisimizde, çevresel sorumluluğumuzun bilinciyle su kaynaklarının korunmasına yönelik sürdürülebilir uygulamaları önceliklendiriyoruz. Özellikle yaz sezonunda artan su tüketimini dengelemek adına aşağıdaki su tasarrufu önlemlerini uygulamaktayız:

3. Timed Garden Irrigation and Use of Native Plants
Local plant species with low water requirements have been chosen for our landscaped areas. Irrigation is carried out in the early morning or late evening, minimizing evaporation loss and reducing water consumption.

4.Guest Information and Participation Encouragement
Informational materials in our rooms raise guests' awareness of water conservation. Guest participation is encouraged in practices such as short shower times and daily towel and bed linen changes.

5. Towel and Bed Linen Change Policy
Towels and bed linen changes are made every two days, based on guest requests. This practice saves both water and energy, while reducing environmental impact.

6. Staff Training and Continuous Improvement
Our staff receives regular training on water conservation and is informed about new technologies. Our technical staff also conducts periodic inspections to prevent water leaks.

In line with this policy, our resort aims to protect its valuable natural resources and promote sustainable tourism. We invite our guests to share in this sensitive approach.
